Transfers

Velocity Works is happy to provide FFL transfer services for our customers. We will need to send your seller a copy of our FFL before they can ship out your item. When it arrives, we’ll contact you and run a background check in our shop when you come to pick up the item. When the background check clears, we collect the transfer fee, and the firearm is yours. The time from when you walk in to when you walk out with your firearm is usually less than 30 minutes. We will need a few pieces of information to get the process started. Please complete and submit the following form to get the process started. Once we’ve reviewed the form and contacted your seller, we will send you a follow-up email confirming your transfer request.  NOTE: Your ID must have your CURRENT RESIDENT ADDRESS or you will need to supply further documentation (See “ID and signature requirements” below).  By law, we CANNOT transfer a firearm if your supplied ID doesn’t reflect your current resident address.

NOTE:  PLEASE DON’T submit this form multiple times if we don’t respond promptly, or call to see if we’ve received the form.  We get approx 100+ emails per day and when the form is submitted multiple times, all it does is clutter up the inbox and delay the process.  When you submit the form, the page will reload and say “your form has been successfully submitted”.  When you see that, we’ve got it.

PLEASE Wait until we’ve contacted you to pick up your firearm!  We get several packages daily, and it takes us time to open up all our items, log everything in, and process all the paperwork.  If you come in to pick up your firearm before we’ve called you, we may have to ask you to come back later, depending on the customer activity.

NOTE:  2020-2021 has seen an unprecedented volume of background checks, which severely bogs down the system.  In our recent experience, if you come to pick up a firearm for transfer after 5:00PM you will very likely get put on delay, particularly on Fridays.  While we’re happy to run the check, we close at 6PM for a reason as we have families to get back to, and if the background check is still not complete by then, we’ll simply advise you that we’ll call you the next day with the status (Proceed, Delay, Deny).  Thank you for your understanding.  Disregard this notice if you have a valid Ohio Concealed Handgun License.

Transfer Fees

The fee for our FFL transfer service (long gun, hand gun, or receiver) is $25.00. If you have more than one firearm you would like to have transferred, the fee is $25.00 for the first firearm plus $15.00 per each additional firearm transferred in the same transaction. We must collect sales tax on all transfer fees.

Multiple Handguns:If you are having more than one handgun transferred within a 5 business day period, we are required to fill out and submit additional paperwork to the ATF that is time consuming and subjects us to additional costs. Because of the added paperwork we charge an additional $10.00 service fee under these circumstances.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to inquire at Firearms@VelocityWorks.net or 614-891-4545

ID and signature requirements

To pick up a firearm you must present a valid, government-issued photo ID including your name, date of birth, current residence address, and signature. If your current residence address doesn’t match the one on your submitted ID, you will need to also submit a government issued identification document with your current residence address. Examples of documents that may be accepted to supplement information on a driver’s license or other identification document include a vehicle registration, a recreation identification card, a fishing or hunting license, a voter identification card, or a tax bill. However, the document in question must be valid and must have been issued by a government agency.

If you possess a valid Ohio Concealed Handgun License that was issued on or after March 23, 2015, you may present that in lieu of undergoing a NICS background check. You will still have to fill out a Form 4473, but we can skip the NICS check.

It is your responsibility to make sure that the seller requires a signature for delivery from their shipper. We’ve had several packages containing firearms shipped to our shop that did not require a signature upon receipt, and were just left at the door or in our mailbox. This has especially become a problem when receiving packages from non-FFL shippers. Velocity Works assumes NO responsibility, financially or legally, for firearms that are stolen because the shipper didn’t require a signature upon receipt.

We are required by law to log in where a firearm came from, and we can not do this without the proper FFL or ID. Velocity Works reserves the right to hold transfer of the firearm until we have the proper paperwork. It is your responsibility to make sure the seller includes a copy of their FFL (if applicable) or ID with firearm shipments. This has become more of a problem with packages from non-FFL shippers.

Choosing A Carry Pistol – Part IV – The Single Action Only (SAO) Pistol

Choosing A Carry Pistol Part IV — The Single Action Only (SAO) Pistol The single action only pistol is a classic and still very relevant carry option. PLEASE READ. Attached is a copy of my receipt so you know this is a legitimate review. The pictures are from my brand new $500 Beretta. I took it in to have a trigger kit and new sights installed and this is how it was returned me, after waiting... three weeks. It honestly didn't occur to me to check the gun for scratches because you assume when you take your gun to a gunsmith they will take care of your gun. These are PERMANENT scratches. This is simply gross negligence. The trigger kit and sights appeared to to be installed correctly but I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND this Gunsmith based purely on the fact that they put permanent scratches on my brand new $500 Beretta.read more

The gunsmith (I think you said your name was Nate? Sorry, I'm bad with names) is fantastic! I had an incredibly stubborn barrel nut that I had been brutalizing all day without any success. My man had that thing off before I could even finish... browsing the guns in the store! My Fortis rail went on like a breeze after that. Big props to this shop!read more

I have been dealing with Velocity Works for a few years now and have specifically dealt with all of Velocity's staff namely Joe, Larry and Nate. They are all a joy to deal with and have treated me as a valued customer since the day I first stepped... in to their place of business. I think their pricing is fair and the quality and workmanship is second to none. I recently just had an Apex trigger installed in my M&P Shield 1.0 and the transformation from stock to upgrade has been tremendous. Thank you Velocity for your professionalism and for the ease of doing business with your establishment.read more

Ok first off very nice people five stars on hospitality. I would defiantly recommend if you are buying a gun. The bad I cannot and would not in good faith recommend for gunsmith work. I had a rifle that I wanted glass and pillar bed and needed... mounting screws. I got it back first thing I noticed was it was missing 1 of three screws. They did order and mail the screw to me. Secondly I noticed the glass bedding could have been cleaned up in spots some l light sanding would have went a long way, but whatever I can fix that. I got home and realized the rear screw in the action was not even threaded in the pillar was not drilled straight the hole did not line up and the gun would not even fire. I took it back and the gunsmith admitted it was off and was going to put a bigger pillar in to offset the hole so it would line up. The owner said he would make it right and compensate me somehow. I was afraid and even told my girlfriend they would try to wallow the hole out so I was happy it was going to be fixed right.Thirdly A week or so later I go to pick it up and he said all he had to do was wallow the hole out some. I have well over $1200 in parts in this gun wallowing a hole out is not good gunsmithing. The owner was biz when I picked it up the second time so no compensation was given so I guess thats on me for not waiting around I was frustrated by the entire deal. After getting it home the second time I noticed a part was missing. I called and ask the gunsmith he said with the bolt I wanted the part would not work and he forgot to send it with the gun. they did mail the part back. Like I said nice guys and would recommend for sales, but not gunsmith work.read more

I've had Velocity Works service various firearms on a number of occasions, and they do a great job and charge a fair price. For example, I usually install sights myself, but sometimes I don't have the right sight pusher and/or my standard... gunsmithing tools & limited gunsmithing ability fail to get the job done, so I turn to them to fix problems I often create by not having taken a gun to them in the first place. ;) Typically these are replacing factory sights that were pressed too tightly. Specifically, they installed the following sights as pictured: a pair of XS Big Dots Night Sights on a Smith & Wesson Bodyguard 380, XS Standard Dot Night Sights on my SIG P229 Enhanced Elite, and a pair of Ameriglo iDot Night Sights on my Performance Center Smith & Wesson M&P Shield M2.0. They all came out great and were wonderful upgrades to the factory sights. As such, I highly recommend Velocity Works.read more

Gunsmith is ok when it comes to Ar15 work. I had him pin and weld a muzzle brake on my 14.5 upper. While functionally the work was fine. cosmetically a tig welder should have been used so he didn't have to grind on my very expensive barrel. They... also charged more than 2 times what everyone else charges for the same work. The price would be fine if they did a perfect job. One good thing is if someone ever wants to check to make sure my muzzle brake is welded on, they will have no problem seeing that it is.read more

I had a problem with my Covert Carrier Grip for my Walther PPKS. The gentleman at the counter said he could fix the grip and get it to attach correctly. He said he would charge me 1/2 hour of labor. He working the gun for about 30 minutes and... successfully attached the new grip. I pulled out my wallet to pay. He said no charge , just give us a good write-up on Google. I have purchased a handgun from this shop and they have solved several problems I have had in the past as well as today. Give them a try for a new gun purchase or gunsmithing services. Awesome. Simply put these guys (Joe especially) are great to deal with. I've been doing transfers mostly with them for the last two years since moving to Ohio. Every time I need their FFL sent they usually send it within hours and 24 hours max. ... They promptly call when guns arrive and every time I go in there I find myself talking with Joe for a bit.
